Green Lantern Costumes

As any fans could accurately expect, the upcoming release of the Green Lantern movie (less than a month now! Dang, I’m stoked!) only means one thing – a truckload of Lantern merchandise!

Starting this month and beyond, I’m guessing we’ll get to see lotsa flick-related shirts, action figures, tumblers and, of course, power rings!

Few things, however, could be cooler than having your very own Green Lantern costume. I found these awesome stuff from Buy Superhero Costumes website and it made me smile.

This is as cute as Green Lantern could get! Haha.. I love the details they put on this almost-movie-accurate jumpsuit. Plus the plastic ring, shoe cover, and the eyemask are great additions.

Want to go further than that? Get this inflatable gatling gun and re-enact that scene from the movie then!

And oh! Make sure to memorize the Green lantern oath! No one wants a wannabe.

As for the grown-ups, this comic book version of Hal Jordan should be a good choice:

Francis Magalona Clothing Company Gets A New Website

The company started showcasing and selling their products via their Multiply account many years ago and its a great thing they finally come up with their own website!

I stumbled upon this new Francis Magalona Clothing Company site when I was checking my Twitter messages awhile back and after browsing it for a few minutes, I am happy to report that this new online home displays most, if not all, of their existing designs! On top of that, the site is very user-friendly so its pretty easy to navigate too.

Francis Magalona Clothing Company shirts are mostly priced at Php 550.00 but some special releases and limited edition shirts have the tag price of Php 650.00 to Php 750.00. Obviously, shipping fees would also be required as you place your online orders.

Given the chance to choose one shirt, I think I would definitely pick this one:

This limited edition Death Anniversary shirt was designed by no less than Marvel Comics superstar Leinil Francis Yu (whose been a friend and a longtime supporter of the Master Rapper) and I like it much. Given its cost, I’m sure purchasing this one right now would be financially suicidal on my part so maybe next time! Hahah!

Cool Iron Man Costumes

Been browsing the Coolest Homemade Costumes website to try and get some ideas for an upcoming party and found some really cool Iron Man costumes there.

No, I’m not planning to dress up as everyone’s favorite Shell Head but I just had fun looking at these images and I thought I should share them with you. And besides, I already miss blogging so let this be my pathetic excuse for a new entry after a long absence! Hahah!

Quite an impressive take on the Mark V armor movie version, eh?.. What’s more amazing about this is that this costume was made before the movie even came out, using only a few leaked images as a reference!.. Nah, I’m quite sure the guy also checked out some artworks from the comic books!

Also an awesome Iron Man armor, you bet! I actually love the metallic shine plus how the led lights up. If I’d have to nitpick on one thing though, I’m sure it would be that helmet he’s holding. I don’t like it! Not to underestimate the guy’s effort at all but I think it definitely needs more work. Here’s how he looks like when he wears it:

The helmet’s so ridiculous it kinda ruins the entire costume, wouldn’t you say?

As heavy as the Mark I armor looks like, this one has been described as “very lightweight and easy to move around in” by the guy who created it so that’s really fun. Tony Stark himself would be so proud!

My top pick for the best Iron Man cosplay, however, wasn’t something I found at the site. I actually got this a-bit-blurry-but-clear-enough picture from DeviantArt’s DarkZappa..

Who would’ve guessed Iron Man can be described as “adorable”, right?

Metro Comic Con 2010

Thanks to good friends Myke and Robin, I got to attend the recently-concluded Metro Comic Con 2010 at the SM Megamall. I was there for the first day and it was absolutely mind-blowing!

I got to meet some cool people, picked up a few comic books, spotted some celebrities and even took the liberty of manning a creator’s booth for a few minutes without even meeting him first. Seriously! Hahah..

Here goes my report – or what I remember most out of the event:

Macoy’s Booth

Shortly after we arrived, I noticed a small crowd starting to gather around Gio Paredes and Macoy Tang‘s table. Macoy was not there though. I guess he was buying his food or something and Gio has his hands full with lots of fans (as usual). I thought I really wouldn’t want a creator to lose potential buyers so my rabid fanboy instincts prompted me to spring into action and seize the opportunity. I talked with the people and did eventually manage to sell a few copies… Yey!

Macoy looked a little surprised when he arrived and I handed him the money – that was how we met! Hahah! Quite funny, I know. And weird.

It was fun chatting with fellow fans though and recommending Macoy’s awesome works to them.

Deviant People

People from DeviantArt were also all over the place and I got to meet a few friends there – most of whom were superb supporters of Bayan Knights. Here’s a photo with Sarra’s friend (I forgot his name, sorry), Sarra Jean Navorra, me, Robin Rivero and Jaybee Bonus.

Not in picture were mild-mannered JC Villaverde and cool BK cosplay photographer Mervin Arciaga who were also present during the event.

Freebies, Freebies

Days before Metro Comic Con, Jon Zamar asked me to write a short foreword for Codename: Bathala and I did. So he gave me my complimentary and I’m just proud and happy to somehow be a part of Bathala’s history. Its a cool comicbook, I tell you!

I also approached Rommel “Omeng” Estanislao and it was a delight to meet him in person at last. He seems to be a very cool guy and he became even cooler in my eyes when he gave me a copy of Lipad. Haha! That book blew me away. I think I’m reviewing that wicked, little title soon.

Fellow BK member and MCC-organizer Heubert Khan Michael gave me free copies of Unstoppable #3 and 4 too, the remaining isues of the first story arc. And oh! Erico Calimlim also handed me copies of Pag-Asa #3 and 4.

You guys are too kind. Thanks much really!

Man, you just gotta love the Metro Comic Con! Haha!

Celebrity Geeks

Several rockstars were also seen roaming around the event for some comicbooks. There’s guitarist Led Tuyay and drummer Bords Burdeos from Kamikazee plus Parokya Ni Edgar guitarist Gabs Chee-Kee. That was cool. I wonder why Chito Miranda (another self-declared comic geek) wasn’t around though.

I guess RJ Ledesma was the biggest celebrity geek of the day, hosting the Marvel Panel and going around to buy local indie comics, to the delight of both the fans and creators. He’s also been Twittering endlessly about these local titles and that’s just awesome!

On A Side Note

I’m just happy to see lots of kids accompanied by their parents (or was that otherwise? Eheheh…) during the event. I personally think local comics deserve more younger readers so the industry could keep going. Here’s hoping for more kid-friendly releases too!

Dinner Time

The day ended with us, Bayan Knights, having our 2nd year anniversary dinner later on at Mang Inasal. It was absolutely fun being with these guys again. We’re more than a comics group. We’re family! Yey! Congrats to us, guys. More comics and more 2 years to come!

Unlimited rice?.. Bring it on!

Metro Comic Con 2010 was really wild. Hope to make it on the next event/s again!

Lego Ghostbusters Ecto-1

Those who frequent the blog may have noticed I’m on a little nostalgia trip as of late.

First, there’s Krang. Then there’s Gatchaman.

Now to make things worse, I found this Lego version of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 on the web and I’m impressed with the accuracy.

If you were born in the 80′s, I’m sure you’d want one for your room.

This awesome Ghostbusters car has been rendered by Flickr user Orion Pax. While he doesn’t give us details about how long it took him to create this, he confirms it was indeed “a nightmare to build.”

Too bad this isn’t available as a Lego set yet! So what we all fanboys can do for now is to stare at these pictures in envy. Or go ahead and try creating one.

I first read about Electromagnetic Tentacles when Comicology blogged about them last ToyCon. I thought these guys were insanely good! Their shirt concepts are really catchy and hilarious – especially if you are a Filipino. They’ve got cool parody shirts of our favorite superheroes all mixed up with local Pinoy culture.

Now being more of a Marvel fan, these three automatically became my favorites. I love the Spider-Man-Venom fight the most though!

League Of Lanterns

Some geeks just can’t get enough out of following the comics or collecting those colorful plastic rings. Some just had to cosplay their favorite Lanterns and appear together at several conventions in the US.

They call themselves the League Of Lanterns.

Minor accuracy issues and beer bellies aside, these guys get to prove that group cosplays are always the coolest!

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

It may have taken a decade for this one but looking at the teaser trailer alone, I’d say its pretty much worth the wait.

In other words, Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds sure looks fantastic!

It feels more like a motion comic than an actual video game – and that makes it more exciting.

Now, who told you that War Machine's more "heavily-armed" than Iron Man?

You all know what this is - its the immortal "down-forward-punch" move!
